Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ – The national team of robotics of Moldova won the bronze medal at world olympics of the First Global Challenge 2018, which took place in Mexico on 16 – 18 August.
The team of Moldova was represented by five students: Cristian Comendant, Andries Copaci, Andrian Bocancea, Mihai Moglan, Nicolae Mihalache and it was guided by mentor Florin Cazac.
The theme of this competition was "Energy Impact", one of the global issues. With a standard set of parts, engines and mechanisms, over three months, the participating teams have conceptualised, built and programmed an agile robot that simulated field production of renewable energy jointly with other two teams.
"I am delighted to be able to consolidate a united team that has demonstrated excellent results in construction, robot programming, and ability to react quickly jointly with other countries. The specificity of competition lies in the need for cooperation and negotiation with the teams of other countries and to make alliances with them in order to accumulate higher scores. We managed to make friends with our allies, which allowed us to be among the first three teams," said national mentor of robotics, Florin Cazac.
The world olympics of robotics the First Global Challenge 2018 is at its second issue. The competition was attended by selectors from 175 countries, from five continents.
In Moldova, over 9,000 pupils have studied robotics in 112 schools and 19 libraries starting with 2014.
