Moldovan, American officials broach cooperation

Chisinau, 22 August /MOLDPRES/- Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi had a meeting with Chairman of the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America's Heritage Abroad Paul Packer, on a working visit to Moldova, according to the MAEIE’s press service.
The officials approached bilateral cooperation between Moldova and the USA, as well as collaboration with the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), relations with the World Jewish Congress and other relevant organizations. They reviewed progress made by Moldova in the implementation of the action plan on implementation of the Declaration of the Moldovan parliament on acceptance of the report of the International Commission on Holocaust, chaired by Elie Wiesel, especially focusing on the priority areas of education and raising the memory of Holocaust victims, anti-Semitism, improving national legislation, etc.
Ulianovschi thanked the official for the support given to our country in order to meet the goals set in the action plan.
For his part, Packer welcomed the positive dynamics in the evolution of Moldovan-American relations and praised the results achieved by Moldova in building a society in the spirit of tolerance, non-discrimination and observance of citizens' rights of all ethnicities. He confirmed willingness of the commission to back the efforts of our country in implementing the reform agenda.
The U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America's Heritage Abroad was set up by U.S. President Ronald Reagan in 1985 to promote the preservation and restoration of monuments associated with the history of the United States. In recent years, the Commission's work has focused on the heritage in Eastern Europe, destroyed during the Holocaust. The Commission is currently carrying out a series of projects to restore Jewish cemeteries in Belarus, Poland and Ukraine.
