Chisinau, 23 August /MOLDPRES/ – The law stipulating that family doctors of Moldova will be able to have the first individual practice according to the European model will be published on Friday, 24 August, in the Official Journal.

The document provides that family doctors may have free practice in one of the forms prescribed by law or as an employee of a provider of healthcare or pharmaceutical service. The funding will be provided based on the number of patients and additional services.

The territorial activity sector will be awarded to doctors on a contest basis, organised by the Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection (MSMPS). A family doctor may be the holder of a single practice.

The local authorities are expected to provide specialists with specially designed spaces as well as the necessary assets for primary care providers. The free practice will exist in parallel with existing system.

Within three months from the date of entry into force of the new law, MSMPS will organise delimitation and assignment of family doctors, according to their location.
