Five persons detained for tax evasion in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 August /MOLDPRES/ – Five persons, including three employees of the State Tax Service (SFS), were detained today due to searches conducted in a tax evasion case in particularly large proportions.

Interviewed by agency, Chief Prosecutor of Chisinau, Stefan Saptefrati, specified that the other two detained persons are company managers.

"The employees of SFS are suspected of abuse of service, while company managers – of tax evasion in particularly high proportions," said Saptefrati.

According to cited source, starting with 2017, the employees of the Operational Fiscal Control Department would have favoured the access of two company managers to the sealed warehouses of a tax office in Orhei, where there were stored quantities of ethyl alcohol. "After that, the employees of the companies would have taken over 35 thousand litres of ethyl alcohol, without elaborating the fiscal acts, and the state budget was damaged in a very large proportion," said Saptefrati.

The criminal prosecution actions take place in two criminal cases, initiated a few months ago.

In this case, the prosecutors and investigative officers conducted searches today in over 20 places in Chisinau and Orhei district. The disposals took place at the dwellings, in the cars, but also at the headquarters of economic agent.
