Turkish embassy marks feast of sacrifice for first time in Moldova

Chisinau, 23 August /MOLDPRES/ – The Turkish Embassy in Moldova marked for the first time in Moldova Kurban Bayram – Feast of Sacrifice. At the event, the embassy donated 250 kg of beef to the children from the five placement centres subordinated to Chisinau Municipal Department for the Protection of Child's Rights.  

Turkish Ambassador in Chisinau, Gürol Sökmensüer, said that Kurban Bayram is one of the two Muslim holidays that involves granting aid to needy people regardless of their religious affiliation. According to official, the aid comes from Red Crescent Organisation (RCO), which offers donations around the world. It will provide aid also in Gagauzia, but also in other regions of Moldova.

In turn, the representative of RCO, Metin Tung, said that this year the institution has provided aid to persons in need in over 40 countries around the world.

Interim head of the Municipal Child's Rights Protection Department, Lucia Caciuc, thanked the guests for help, which would also reach the elderly in Chisinau. "Every people has its religious traditions, which it keeps with respect for their countrymen and promotes them in the environments in which they are. Today, the Turkish Embassy in Moldova came to the Municipal Department for Protection of the Rights of Child to share the joy of the religious celebration and offer traditionally meat to children in placement centres of the Department, told the agency Lucia Caciuc.   

Kurban Bayram (The feast of sacrifice) is a traditional holiday in Turkey. On this day, sheep are slaughtered and the meat is donated to poor persons.
