Chisinau, 31 August /MOLDPRES/ – Several cultural actions, dedicated to the National Holiday: Limba noastra cea romana (Our Romanian Language), took place today in Chisinau and other localities of Moldova.

The feast began with laying of flowers at the monument of ruler Stefan cel Mare si Sfant and at the bust of poet Mihai Eminescu on the Alley of Classics of the Romanian Literature. Then, in Public Garden Stefan cel Mare si Sfant, there was a literary – artistic manifestation entitled: La inceput a fost cuvantul... (At the beginning was the word ...).

The President of the Union of Writers of Moldova (USM), Arcadie Suceveanu, moderator of event, mentioned that the Romanian Language Day is really a national holiday. "Unfortunately, Romanian is still on the barricades today, because it has not managed to penetrate into all social spheres. The Romanian language is the bond of blood and spirit, which has kept us to survive in history," said Arcadie Suceveanu.

Attending the event, State Secretary of culture, Andrei Chistol, specified that, traditionally, after 27 August, the Independence Day of Moldova, we mark the Romanian Language Day. "It is a fundamental day that puts the foundation of our society and people. The Romanian language is the treasure inherited from our ancestors and it must be honoured at its true value," remarked Andrei Chistol.

At his turn, literary critic Ion Ciocanu paid tribute to the Romanian language and the personalities which fought for it: Valentin Mandacanu, Silviu Berejan, Eugen Coseriu, Nicolae Matcas, Ion Dumeniuc, etc. Vali Boghean, Rafael Bobeica, Rafael Granaci and others played in front of the audience.

There also came With congratulatory messages on the Day of Romanian Language, Speaker of Parliament, Andrian Candu, and Prime Minister, Pavel Filip. SP wrote on a social network that "At first it was the Word ... It was beginning with God ... All through Him was done" (The Holy Gospel of John) – Fighting the Right to Speak the Language of Ancestors led to independence and liberated us. Let us be proud of our language and remember those who fought for being able to speak Romanian today."

The PM said, at his turn, that "in 2013 the Romanian language returned to its home, here in Moldova, by the decision of the Constitutional Court (CC). However, as if we have not yet learnt to appreciate it at the right value, we sometimes get rid of it. We can celebrate Romanian not only on 31 August, but every day, trying to speak it right and teaching our children to do the same. Long live, our Romanian Language!"

Today, there took place more literary and artistic manifestations dedicated to the Romanian language in sectors of Chisinau municipality, and Romanian academician, Eugen Simion, delivered a lecture at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM).

The celebration of Our Romanian Language will culminate with a choreographic performance entitled: In ritmul secolului (In the rhythm of the century ...), realised by the Association of Modern Dance (ADM), which will take place on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN).

The Romanian Language Day has been celebrated since 2011 on the same day in Romania.
