Writer Ion Druta turned 90 years

Chisinau, 3 September /MOLDPRES/- The prose writer, playwright and essayist Ion Druţă, People's Writer, honorary member of the Romanian Academy and a member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, is today 90 years.
Ion Druţă was born on 3 September 1928 in Horodişte village, Donduseni district. He graduated from the Forestry School (1946) and literature courses at the M. Gorki Institute in Moscow (1957).
Since 1987 Druţă is honorary president of the Writers' Union of Moldova, where he was unanimously elected at the General Assembly of Writers. He is decorated with several orders and medals, holds the title of People's Writer.
In 1990 he was nominated honorary member of the Romanian Academy, and on 30 December 1992 - a member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. He was included in the list of ten writers in the world for 1990 (Literary Moldova on 26 July 1995).
In August 2008, Ion Druţă was awarded the State Prize for an exceptional contribution to the development of national and universal culture and literature.
In September 2009, he became the first Knight of the Founder Bogdan Order.
Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin decorated Ion Druţă as a sign of deep gratitude for his special contribution to national revival, for merits in the development of cultural relations with foreign countries and prodigious activity to increase Moldova’s international prestige.
His work has been translated into dozens of languages.
