Academician Mihai Cimpoi celebrates 76th anniversary

Chisinau, 3 September /MOLDPRES/- Academician Mihai Cimpoi, a literary critic and historian, eminescologist, philosopher of culture, university professor, honoured man, Moldovan State Prize laureate, celebrated today 76 years.
He was born on 3 September 1942 in Larga village, Briceni district. In 1965, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the State University of Moldova. He has been editor of "Moldovan Book" and "Artistic Literature", literary secretary at M. Eminescu National Theater and A. Mateevici Theater.
He is also the head of the Association of Creators of Moldova. He actively participated in the national revival in Bessarabia.
Mihai Cimpoi was people’s deputy of the USSR (1989-1990) and then MP (1999-2001).
He is an honorary member of the Romanian Academy (since 1991), member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (1992), Honorary Director of the "Mihai Eminescu" International Academic Center (1999), editor-in-chief of "Mihai Eminescu" magazine, editor-coordinator and director of the literary magazine "Life of Bessarabia".
Academician Mihai Cimpoi was awarded the title of Master of Literature (1992), the State Prize (1994), the Order of the Republic (1996), the jubilee medal "Mihai Eminescu" (Romania, 2000) with the "Steaua României" order (2014).
He is Doctor Honoris Causa of the Universities of Tiraspol, Balti (Moldova), Oradea, Alba Iulia (Romania).
In 2012 he was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Chisinau municipality.
