Chisinau, 4 September /MOLDPRES/ - The tendency of decrease in the turnover on the mobile telephony market maintained in the first half of 2018 too, in conditions when the number of users of these services and the voice traffic diminished. The volume of sales made from the mobile telephony services dropped by six per cent in the first six months of this year, to 1 billion 546 million lei, according to data by the National Agency for Regulation in Electronic Communication and Information Technology (ANRCETI), made public today.

According to ANRCETI, the number of users dropped by 51.5 thousand against late 2007, to 4 million 408.5 thousand, and the voice traffic volume on this period reduced by 26.2 million minutes and amounted to 3 billion 63.2 million minutes.

The market followed the trend from 2017, when the turnover dropped by 3.3 per cent, following the decline from 2016, when the sales had decreased significantly in the last years.

Data presented to ANRCETI by the three providers of mobile communications services (Orange Moldova, Moldcell and Moldtelecom – Unite) shows that the decrease of the mobile telephony market was prompted, in fact, by the drop of the  sales made by Moldcell and Orange Moldova. The turnover recorded by Moldcell decreased by nine per cent and the sales made by Orange Moldova dropped by 5.9 per cent. At the same time, the sales of Moldtelecom increased by 12.1 per cent.

Experts explain the negative trend of the main mobile telephony market indicators by the change of users’ consumption preferences from services of this type of telephony to alternative services of communication visa Internet: OTT applications: Skype, Viber, WhatsApp, etc., which are cheaper and are provided free of charge.

The analysis of the voice traffic generated by users shows that the latter continue giving preference to conversations made in their own networks and the ones directed to other mobile networks.

In the end of the first half of this year, the market shares of those three providers of mobile telephony services, depending on the volume of sales, were the following: Orange Moldova – 64.6 per cent, Moldcell – 30.1 per cent and Moldtelecom – 5.3 per cent.
