Over 300 new cases of cervical cancer annually detected in Moldova - Health Ministry

Chisinau, 5 September /MOLDPRES/ - Over 300 new cases of cervical cancer are annually detected in Moldova and one Moldovan woman dies of this disease every three days, according to data by the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry. The institution, with the support of more partners, has said that it would start an opinion poll to establish the knowledge, attitudes and practices in terms of preventing the cervical cancer.
According to the ministry’s data, the opinion poll will be conducted all over Moldova during September, on a sample of 1,203 women with ages between 25 and 61 years.
The Health Ministry said that the study was set to understand why women do not pass the test screening cervical Papanicolau, which are the social norms which influence their behaviour, as well as the aspects due to be improved at the system’s level.
The Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry encourages women and their families to actively take part in the poll. This will help the medical system improve the access and quality of services of preventing the cervical cancer, as well as establishing the best ways of informing the residents.
The opinion poll will involve about 30 sociological operators, due to go to settlements to collect data. Also, discussions with women aged between 25 and 61 years will take place, as well as interviews with providers of cervical screening services and experts in preventing the cervical cancer.
The study is part of a project titled, Prevention of cervical cancer in Moldova, carried out by the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry and co-financed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
