273 cases of measles confirmed in Moldova

Chisinau, 7 September /MOLDPRES/- The number of measles patients increased last week, reaching 273 cases. Of these, 77 were confirmed in the first six days of September, so orange code of measles remains in the country.
According to the National Agency for Public Health, the areas affected by measles in the last week are: Ceadâr-Lunga, Vulcăneşti, Ungheni, Taraclia, Cahul, Hincesti, Cantemir, Ocnita, Nisporeni and Chisinau.
The authorities announced in late August orange code of measles throughout the country and warned that unvaccinated children would not be admitted to kindergartens and schools.
Measles can only be prevented by vaccination. In Moldova, vaccination is carried out with the combined vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella (ROR) at one year, 6-7 years, 14-15 years. Vaccination is free for all those eligible. In the last ten years, the rate of immunization in Moldova was 95 percent, and now it is up to 87 percent. Outbreaks of measles are in neighboring Ukraine and Romania.
