Chisinau, 7 September /MOLDPRES/- First form pupils will study a new subject - Digital Education. For teaching, school teachers in the country today received 1,850 tablets. The course will be mandatory for first grade pupils and by the sixth grade it will be optional.

Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc said that launching new module "starts a new era in education in our country".

Economy and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici said the use of gadgets for studies has been completely discouraged so far. "Technologies are the future. Our kids understand this still small. For some time, our society is in a paradoxical situation: although we are trying to implement information technologies in most sectors, we complain that our sons and daughters are permanently in gadgets. Therefore, we have promoted innovative educational solutions meant to ensure quality of IT knowledge and skills from early age,” Gaburici said.

The head of the National ICT Association, Irina Străjescu, said that the ICT sector is facing a great shortage of specialists, and it is important that the children's education in this field begins in the first years of school. "The educational system is modernized by applying new, innovative methods by applying new technologies, not by banning them in schools."

The launch of the "Digital Education" module ends the first phase of the TWENTYTU project. In June, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the National Association of ICT Companies and TEKWILL Training and Innovation Center signed a memorandum of understanding on the implementation of digital education in schools and partnership in TWENTYTU programme. Under the partnership, the school curriculum was adjusted, the teachers' support and the Digital Education handbook for first grade were worked out.
