Moldova, Germany interested in deepening bilateral relations

Chisinau, 07 September /MOLDPRES/ – The opportunities for intensifying the Moldovan – German political dialogue, both bilaterally and within various international organisations, recent social – political developments in Moldova, process of settling the Transnistrian conflict, as well as other issues of mutual interest, have been discussed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Tudor Ulianovschi, at meetings with the Federal Government for relations with Russia, Central Asia and the Eastern Partnership countries, Dirk Wiese, and with the Deputy First Counselor of the Federal Chancellor's Office for Security and Foreign Policy, Joachim Bertele, the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
The exchange of views on development of Moldovan – German relations, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi, in the discussion with the two German officials, appreciated the financial and technical assistance provided by Germany to Moldova for the implementation of Moldova's reform and modernisation programmes. "The decision by the German authorities to keep Moldova on the list of beneficiary countries throughout the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and through other technical support programmes has allowed us to start implementing a series of projects related to modernising local public services, increasing quality and efficiency in healthcare, etc. Moldova is interested in consolidating and developing bilateral relations with Germany, being open to political dialogue on all dimensions of Moldovan – German relations," said the head of Moldovan diplomacy.
At their turn, the German officials appreciated the efforts of the Moldovan authorities in implementation of Moldova's reforms and development programme, achievement of objectives under the Moldova – EU Association Agreement, collaboration with international bodies, noting in particular the concern of Berlin regarding making commitments on electoral reform, fighting corruption and conducting elections. The German interlocutors also mentioned that Berlin would continue to support Moldova, providing all assistance and expertise both in stabilising economic development and modelling the processes needed for economic reforms, as well as in issues related to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
In this context, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi expressed gratitude for continued political support of Germany in the Transnistrian settlement process, including in the context of the OSCE Chairmanship in 2016, and for the "pro" vote at the UN General Assembly on resolution: "The full and unconditional withdrawal of foreign military troops from the territory of Moldova".
