Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/ - The two points for registration of vehicles from the two banks of Dniester will work in testing regime till 10 September. On this date, the competent representatives will switch to the normal regime, on the occasion of a visit to Moldova by Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for Transnistrian Settlement Process Franco Frattini. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic has made statements to this effect in an interview given exclusively to MOLDPRES.
According to Lesnic, the opening of the two offices is aimed at facilitating the access of the citizens from the two banks of Dniester to the international traffic.
“All interested people can benefit from these neutral plates and the money paid for them will be transferred to Moldova’s budget. Initially, applicants will get a temporary certificate and after 30 days, during which the needed verifications will be made, the final document will be issued,” Lesnic said.
The official specified that, to be able to move in international traffic, the owners of touring cars with neutral plates will have to hold an international driver’s licence, green card, obligatory insurance and a technical inspection report.
“There will be no numbers to order and the urgent processing of plates will not be allowed. Also, there will be no possibility to select the combination of figures and letters on the plates,” Lesnic added.
The regime of testing the points for the registration of vehicles from the left bank of Dniester was launched on 1 September. Now, drivers can get the neutral numbers at the registration offices from the Tiraspol and Rabnita cities.
Thirty employees from the two banks of Dniester work at the two offices. They issue internationally recognized Moldovan registration plates with neutral deign for the vehicles from the Transnistrian region, which allow the cars’ participation in the international traffic. One vehicle will not be able to concomitantly have two plates and those ruling to preserve the Transnistrian number will be able to move only in Moldova.
So far, the vehicles registered by the breakaway Tiraspol authorities have been able to move, as an exception, only to Ukraine and Russia.
