Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova remains a strategic priority for the Bucharest authorities and the country’s European integration will be further backed by Romania. These messages, set forth at the Annual Meeting of the Romanian Diplomacy, have been conveyed to Prime Minister Pavel Filip by Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The prime minister thanked the Romanian side for support, stressing its importance for the implementation of Moldova’s European agenda, as well as in the carrying out of bilateral projects. “Romania is for us not only a neighbor country and not only a partner – we live in the same space and have the same values. We care about the joint projects underway and we want them to continue, in order to get closer even more,” the PM said.

Among the joint projects of major interest, the sides highlighted the construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline, inter-connection of the electricity networks, development of infrastructure and removing the roaming tariffs between the two states. Ambassador Daniel Ionita specified that the grant provided by Romania for the restoration of kindergartens in Moldova had been recently supplemented with three million euros.

The officials exchanged opinions on reforms promoted by the government, as well as on the commitments assumed before the development partners. The prime minister said that Moldova relied on Romania’s support, in the context of the latter taking over the Presidency of the European Union’s Council on 1 January 2019.
