Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/ - Hearings on the case of expulsion of seven foreign citizens from Moldova today were organized at the parliament on the platform of the commission for national security, defence and public order, led by Eugen Carpov and sub-commission for parliamentary control over the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Participating in the meeting were Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, MPs and heads of the standing parliamentary commissions concerned by the subject. The commission heard a report by the management of SIS, Education Ministry and Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE).
”The subject is complex; I think this is not the last meeting on this subject. We will analyze the topic in continuation, including from the viewpoint of the prospect of observance of human rights,” Andrian Candu said.
Referring to the situation of the Orizont lyceum, the parliament speaker said that, each time, at demands to close the Orizont lyceum, the authorities had answered and would answer negatively.
The agenda of the hearings includes issues concerning the materials accumulated by the Intelligence and Security Service, which led to the expulsion of the Turkish citizens, ensuring the right to education of the children from the Orizont lyceum, as well as information on the developments in the case of Moldova’s diplomatic missions after 6 September 2018.
According to data announced by the hearings, the monitoring of certain people has been lasting since 1997-98. Based on the investigations, 18 persons were declared undesirable, of whom seven were expelled. Annually, about 60-70 people are annually expelled from Moldova.
MAEIE informed that protests had been held at the diplomatic representations of Moldova in the USA, Canada and another six European states. The embassies’ work was ceased for several hours in certain cases.
We remind that Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu has earlier demanded the carrying out of parliamentary control in the case of the Turkish citizens’ expulsion, from the viewpoint of the observance of human rights and national and international norms. Candu’s demand came immediately after SIS’ announcement on the expulsion of seven foreign citizens suspected of connections with an Islamist group. According to information published by the Intelligence and Security Service, the decisions taken were aimed at ensuring the national security.
