Over 7,000 children poisoned by chemicals in Moldova last five years

Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/- In 2012-2017, 7,174 cases of intoxications with chemicals were reported in Moldova. To prevent these incidents, the authorities have launched an information campaign called "Children's health without chemical risks."
According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the campaign will be held on 10-15 September. Specialists of the National Agency for Public Health, jointly with the heads of medical institutions and heads of territorial education directorates, will perform thematic information and communication activities on preventing poisoning in schools, will participate in public discussions, trainings, radio and TV programs, press information, etc.
According to the National Public Health Agency's data, drug intoxications are most common, followed by cosmetics. In rural areas, pesticide intoxications, raticides (poison for mice) and plant toxins are more commonly reported.
According to statistics, in 2012-2017, 7,174 cases of poisoning by various chemicals: drugs, alcohol, pesticides, gases, nitrates, acids were recorded at children up to 18 years. The highest number (1,742) of such intoxications was registered in 2015.
