Moldovan foreign affairs minister meets U.S. Ambassador

Chisinau, 11 September /MOLDPRES/ - Possibilities to turn to good account the Strategic Dialogue between Moldova and the USA, including for the boosting of the multidimensional cooperation, were discussed by Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi and U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James D. Pettit, who ends his mandate in Chisinau, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.
In the beginning of the meeting, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi reiterated the condolences of the Moldovan government to the American nation on the barbarian terror act which occurred in New York on 11 September 2001, which resulted in thousands of casualties.
At the meeting, the sides assessed the achievements recorded in the bilateral cooperation in the last years. The officials noted that the re-launching of the Moldova – ESA Strategic Dialogue had allowed a better interaction in turning to good account the support provided by the United States for the democratic processes in Moldova and implementing the structural reforms, in line with the provisions of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement. In the context, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi highlighted the positive developments in the dynamic of the relations between Moldova and the United States, due including to the substantial contribution of Ambassador James Pettit, during his mandate.
The Moldovan diplomacy head said that a telling example of the fostering of the Moldovan-American ties represented also the holding of the inaugural meeting of the third meeting of the Moldovan-American inter-governmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation in Chisinau on 10 September. According to statistics data, the trade exchanges between Moldova and the United States stood at 55.9 million dollars during January-July 2018, with the Moldovan exports increasing by 28.69 per cent on the concerned period.
Minister Tudor Ulianovschi emphasized also the important support in the promotion of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and continuing the five-plus-two talks to identify a political solution to the Transnistrian problem, by observing Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Ambassador James Pettit pointed out the efficient communication with the Moldovan governmental institutions, highlighting the importance of continuing to strengthen the high-level political dialogue as regards such important subjects as the economic growth and fighting the trafficking of human beings. The American diplomat praised also the Moldovan authorities’ efforts in the process of implementing the reforms and the country’s development programme, achievement of the goals taken within the Moldova – EU Association Agreement. James Pettit said that the success of these efforts would be even better following the fulfillment of the commitments concerning the justice reform, fighting corruption, good holding of elections, etc.
