Sixty two students, pupils from Moldova to receive merit scholarships

Chisinau, 12 September /MOLDPRES/ - The government today approved a list of candidates for the providing of merit scholarships in the 2018-2019 academic year. A number of sixty two students from higher education institutions and pupils from vocational schools will receive scholarships for their academic performances and involvement in the settlement of Moldova’s social and economic problems.
Thus, 12 students from higher education establishments will receive the Scholarship of the Republic worth 1,455 lei and 30 students will benefit from the Government’s Scholarship worth 1,210 lei. The Gaudeamus Scholarship amounting to 880 lei will be offered to 20 pupils from vocational schools. The concerned scholarships have been increased by five per cent, under a cabinet decision approved in last April.
The Education, Culture and Research Ministry said that the 103 candidates from 16 higher public education institutions and 43 ones from the post-secondary vocational education, who got an average of their marks not lower than 9 or 9.5 points, depending on the specialization, had submitted their files to the contest for the Scholarship of the Republic and Government’s Scholarship. Also, decision-makers took into account other criteria, such as education, cultural, sports activities, curriculum vitae, scientific activity, publications and letters of recommendation. The candidates were selected by a special commission, approved under an instruction by the Education Ministry.
The cabinet of ministers also approved a list of candidates for the Scholarship of Moldova’s President, due to be submitted to the head of state for consideration. The list includes ten students from higher education institutions and five pupils from vocational schools. The President’s Scholarship is of 1,320 lei for students and 1,025 lei for pupils.
