Chisinau-based Satiricus I.L Caragiale National Theatre to open 2018-2019 season with play by William Shakespeare

Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/ - The 28th season of the Satiricus I.L. Caragiale National Theatre will be inaugurated with the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare on 28 September at 18:00. The premiere of the play took place on 20 April this year.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the director of the Satiricus Theatre, Alexandru Grecu, has said that it was the first experience in the institution he leads to stage a play by Shakespeare and the tragedy Hamlet is one of his works. This tragedy has been staged about 40 times in Romania and Moldova in the last two centuries.
The director of the theatre noted that seven plays would be staged during the new season. Grecu said that he presently working on a play titled “Vin, femei și tot ce vrei” (Wine, Women and All that You Want) by Andrei Strambeanu, the first performance of which will be held in next November. The premiere of the play The Rat Hunt by Peter Turrini will take place at the theatre on 30 September. At the same time, the first performance of the broadway-type musical Musafirii (The Guests), stage management by Cormin Chivu from Romania, who lives in New York, will start on 15 October.
”This play will be a very important experience for the actors of our theatre, as well as for the audience from Chisinau, who will see another kind of theatre. The premiere of the play will take place on 30 November. The play is a co-production of the Satiricus I.L. Caragiale National Theatre and of the Sibiu Theatre, Romania,” Alexandru Grecu said.
The third issue of the International Festival of Contemporary Dramaturgy, dedicated to the Centenary of the Union with Romania, will take place at the Satiricus I.L. Caragiale National Theatre on 4-14 October. Theatres from eight countries - Moldova, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Romania, Turkey, the USA and Ukraine - will participate in the event. Thirty plays will be performed in all: ten ones by authors from Moldova, ten – by those from Romania and ten plays by dramatist Matei Visniec, staged all over the world. The premiere of the film, Parisul lui Matei (The Paris of Matei), made by TVR (Romanian Television) Iasi, Romania, will be held at the festival too.
On 24 October, the Satiricus I.L. Caragiale National Theatre will take part in the Festival of the Nottara Theatre from Bucharest, on 4 November – at the Toma Caragiu Festival from Ploiesti, Romania, with the play Women’s Doctor by Georges Feydeau, on 7 November – at the festival from Pitesti, Romania, with the play Hamlet and on 28 November – at another festival, organized by the Bucharest City Hall, during which the Moldovan actors will present the play Made in Moldova by Constantin Cheianu.
The Satiricus I.L. Caragiale National Theatre was founded by Alexandru Grecu in 1990. According to the institution’s founder, it is a modern theatre and professes an inciting text, organically synthesized with the dance, song, corporal expression. In 28 years of work, the Satiricus I.L. Caragiale National Theatre has made more than 60 plays and participated in numerous international festivals, getting more trophies.
