Moldovan deputy premier says implementation of EU standards to help improve quality of goods

Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Iurie Leanca, along with Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici, today attended a meeting of operators from the poultry sector. The participants in the event considered requirements and the process of implementation of a roadmap for the export of fowl and eggs to the European Union.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, Deputy Prime Minister Iurie Leanca welcomed the initiative by the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) to organize an event which will bring together representatives of national institutions and producers, exporters of fowl and eggs, in order to identify viable solutions to problems in the sector.
"The export of animal origin products to the EU market is a complex process. I think that we could have advanced much more in this field, and yet the situation has not changed significantly since 2014. Although we enjoyed every support of the European partners, as late as this year, we really get closer to the fulfillment of the criteria set by the European Union, in order to get the right to export poultry goods,” Iurie Leanca said.
At the same time, the deputy prime minister urged Moldovan producers to invest in the goods’ quality, as there is a fierce competition on this segment on the European Union’s domestic market. “The enforcement of the European standards for getting the right to export will enhance the quality of Moldovan goods, will create new jobs and will increase the country’s economy. The major benefit is that our citizens will benefit from this, first of all. Therefore, along with colleagues from the government, we will try to identify solutions to back with funds and state subsidies enterprises from Moldova, for capacities’ adaptation to the European standards,” the Leanca noted.
In the context of a visit to Brussels, Iurie Leanca is to pay on 20 September at an invitation by European Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmstrom, the Moldovan deputy prime minister gave assurances that he would tackle with the EU official, as a priority, the subject on turning to good account the Free Trade Area with the support of the European Union in this respect.
