Women can help ensure peace, security - Moldovan deputy premier says

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/- The degree of implementation of the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security in Moldova, transposed into the National Implementation Program for 2018-2021, approved by government decision in March, development perspectives,  lessons learned, facilitating women's significant participation in peace processes, are just some topics discussed today by Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Lesnic in the context of participation in the Regional Conference on Women, Peace and Security in Central Asia, South Caucasus, Central and Eastern Europe. The forum is held in Vienna, Austria, on 13-14 September, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

“Women are seen as a factor of transformation, and someone has to do it. Mentoring program can approach the interests of women and men in security and peace. There should be no competition between women and men, and these stereotypes should be avoided," the official said.

Touching upon the women as leaders in peace and security in unresolved conflicts, Cristina Lesnic answered many questions from the audience, presented her experience as chief negotiator and the developments on the Transnistrian issue. Together with representatives from Georgia, Ukraine and Armenia, the lessons learned and the existing challenges in the field of reference were presented.

The regional conference is organized in the context of the efforts initiated by the Moldovan government to increase the presence and role of women in security structures with the participation of government officials, representatives of civil society and key people from international organizations.

The event is organized by the Global Women's Peace Network in cooperation with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, UN Women and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria with the support of the Austrian Development Agency.
