Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today opened its doors for visitors the fourth year in a row.
The visitors enjoyed guided tours, participated in contests with prizes, were informed about the legislative process and parliamentary control, wrote messages to MPs and enjoyed master-classes about how a petition is written, the parliament’s communication and public relations has reported.
Twelve institutions which report to the parliament set informative stands in parliament’s halls: Prosecutor General’s Office, Central Electoral Commission, National Anticorruption Centre, National Bank of Moldova, Court of Accounts, Office of Ombudsman, National Integrity Authority, National Financial Market Commission, National Energy Regulatory Agency, National Centre for Personal Data Protection, Competition Council and the council for the prevention and elimination of discrimination and ensuring equality. The institutions’ representatives during the day informed visitors about the actions carried out and the way they can help citizens in settling different situations.
In the opening of the event, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, along with a group of lawmakers, visited informative stands and discussed with representatives of public authorities.
”Year after year, the parliament becomes more and more open, more transparent and more accessible to citizens. It is open, first of all, for those who want to visit the parliament and understand how the legislative process is unfolding, with excursions organized weekly. And the dialogue between citizens and the lawmakers is pretty good, including facilitated by the parliament’s territorial information offices,” Andrian Candu said.
A play zone for children was arranged at the parliament for the first time ever. Small visitors drew, made puzzles and took part in various contests and interactive games with prizes.
To cope with the large number of demands, visitors registered beforehand through a simplified procedure. Also, all MPs have been invited to the event.
The open-doors day at the parliament fits into a programme of actions dedicated to the International Day of Democracy, marked annually on 15 September.
Moldova’s parliament organizes guided tours for all people interested in visiting the parliament’s building, to see from inside how the lawmakers work and learn more information from the legislative activity. The programme of visits was launched in 2014. So far, more than 23,000 persons have visited the parliament.
