Moldovan PM has meeting with State Secretary of Holy See

Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister Pavel Filip has had a meeting today with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin. The Premier has said that the relationship between Moldova and the Holy See is very important and will surely experience a further harmonious development following this visit, the first of its kind and the expected by the whole people, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

"Beyond the crises that Moldova is going through, like the financial and economic crisis of 2015, it is very important to maintain moral stability. A moral crisis is far more difficult to overcome than any economic, financial or even political crisis. That is why, we maintain this dialogue and are grateful for things the Holy See does by promoting moral values ​​which are of vital importance," said Pavel Filip.

The Premier expressed gratitude to the Holy See for addressing the great problems of present, promoting dialogue between civilisations and religions, noting that in Moldova the inter – confessional relations are good relations and there are no difficulties on it.

Also, Pavel Filip emphasised the importance of promoting unity in society. "Moldova is at the intersection between East and West, and some politicians have chosen the easiest way to win a vote – splitting society. For us, it is very important to ensure unity in society," said PM.

His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin said that issues can only be overcome throughout dialogue and it is important that Moldova becomes a bridge between East and West, contributing to peace and stability in region.

The official noted that in the informational age spiritual values ​​gain a special significance, and the role of the Holy See is to stand in their watch.

In this context, Pavel Filip mentioned the successful activity in Moldova of the Roman Catholic Church, which carries out as religious, so educational, social and humanitarian actions. The PM also thanked the non – profit organisation (NPO) Regina Pacis and mission Caritas Moldova, which organises charity and helps the needy people in Moldova.

At the meeting end, PM Pavel Filip invited Pope Francis to visit Moldova.
