860 children in Moldovan capital unvaccinated against measles, authorities say

Chisinau, 17 September /MOLDPRES/- In Chisinau, 860 children are not vaccinated against measles, of whom 611 are pupils and 249 are preschool. Vaccination rate is 88 per cent. Acting head of the department for education, youth and sports Rodica Gutu made the statement at an operative meeting of the municipal services.

In most cases, parents could not tell why they did not vaccinate their children, and 19 families said they had not immunized the children for religious reasons.

According to the National Public Health Agency, from the beginning of the year to 15 September, 282 confirmed cases of measles were recorded in Moldova. A significant increase in the number of illnesses was recorded in August, with 239 confirmed cases. In the first 15 days of September, there were six cases. Throughout the country, there is an orange code on the risk of measles spreading.

ANSP also stated that in 2008-2011 no cases of measles were recorded in our country. Three years followed with 40 cases, and until 2017 there were no reports of measles.
