Chisinau, 17 September /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova relies on the support of Romania in the modernization of the electric energy infrastructure, in order to enhance the country’s energy security. Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici has made statements to this effect at a meeting with the executive general director, president of the supervision council of Transelectrica.

According to Minister Chiril Gaburici, to advance in the inter-connection of the electric energy networks of the two countries, the Moldovan authorities had ruled to speed up the activities related to the project on inter-connection through the construction of a back-to-back station in the southern Vulcanesti town and of a new electricity line Vulcanesti-Chisinau.

Chiril Gaburici welcomed the proposal to open a Transelectrica representation in Chisinau. “This will allow Transelectrica participating in all projects on rehabilitation, modernization and extension of the electric energy infrastructure in Moldova,” the economics and infrastructure minister stressed.

The Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, in a press release, said that Transelectrica representatives had showed interest in investing in Moldova. Also, they reiterated willingness to provide needed support in the process of inter-connection of the national networks of electric energy transportation between Moldova and Romania.

The inter-connection of the Electric Energy System of Moldova to the one of Romania, and implicitly to the one of the continental Europe, European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), will provide needed premises for the creation of a competition market of electric energy in Moldova, the Economics Ministry’s press release also reads.

The discussions took place during an official visit to Romania paid by Chiril Gaburici on 17-19 September.
