Moldovan deputy premier on visit to Strasbourg

Chisinau, 18 September /MOLDPRES/- On 17-18 September, a Moldovan delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic is on a working visit to Strasbourg and had meetings with President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Guido Raimondi, Director of the Political Affairs Directorate Alexandre Guessel, Director of the Office of the Directorate General of Programmes Verena Taylor and Head of Division for Confidence Building Measures Anna Capello, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
During the meeting with Raimondi, the two officials exchanged views on applications before the European Court of Human Rights, especially from the Transnistrian region. In this context, Lesnic presented the latest developments in the negotiations on the Transnistrian problem and approach to identifying solutions to the social issues of people.
Raimondi recalled the impact of implementation of Protocol No14 which significantly contributed to reducing the high flow of requests submitted to the Court for examination and encouraging the ratification of Protocol No16, which stipulates the opportunity of the Supreme Court of Justice to address the ECHR applications for opinion.
During the talks with Alexandre Guessel, the officials approached a lot of issues on the agenda between Chisinau and Tiraspol, their dynamics and challenges.
Lesnic pointed out the government’s views and actions in ensuring and protecting human rights. Also, they approached issues related to the operation of Latin-script schools, access of transport from the Transnistrian region to international road traffic, apostille of study documents for Taras Shevchenko University, efficiency of confidence-building programs, such as the training courses for English teachers on both banks of the Dniestre.
During the meeting with Verena Taylor and Anna Capello, the officials broached the use and need to continue the confidence building projects between the two banks of the Dniestre river, set in the Council of Europe Action Plan for Moldova, 2017-2020.
At the same time, the appointment of new head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau was welcomed, who will take office in October.
