Moldovan parliament speaker meets U.S. senator in Washington

Chisinau, 18 September /MOLDPRES/ - The security in the region, as well as the security challenges and solutions promoted  by Moldova’s authorities were discussed at a meeting between parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and Chair of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Senator Ron Johnson in Washington, the parliament’s communication and public relations has reported.    

The parliament speaker thanked Ron Johnson for acceptance to promote a resolution on supporting Moldova in the U.S. Senate.  

Andrian Candu referred to legislative measures adopted, in order to ensure Moldova’s information security and counteract the information challenges. In particular, the speaker touched upon laws worked out by experts and passed in parliament, which area meant to strengthen the local media, including by providing new development opportunities.  

Andrian Candu spoke about the legislation needed for carrying out works of interconnection to the electric energy supply and the gas pipeline Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau, as well as the approval of the national defence strategy for 2018-2021.

The parliament speaker thanked the senator for the U.S. Congress’ Resolution on supporting Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. Andrian Candu referred to the parliamentary assembly Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, which will hold its first meeting in Georgia in September 2018.  

Also in the context of security challenges, the speaker informed about the Moldovan authorities’ success in the management of more projects meant to get close people from the two banks of Dniester.

Also, Andrian Candu referred to actions undertaken by the authorities to diversify  sales markets for the Moldovan goods.    

The parliament speaker also had meetings with Vice President of the United States Institute of Peace, Ambassador William B. Taylor, as well as with Department of State officials.  

Andrian Candu is on a working visit to the United States in his capacity of deputy leader of the Moldovan Democratic Party and the expenses for this trip are not covered from public money.
