Chisinau, 18 September /MOLDPRES/ – The State Agency for Intellectual Property (AGEPI), EU Support for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) project in Moldova, launched today a National Information Campaign (CIN): "Online piracy is dangerous", which will take place within October.
According to the organisers, the goal of campaign is to raise awareness about the risks of illegal use of intellectual creations on the Internet for both consumers and businesses and also to show what legal alternatives are. The campaign was launched at a press conference, by participation of AGEPI Deputy General Director, Andrei Popa, and Team Leader of the EU Upper Project, Maximilian Foedinger.
In his speech, AGEPI representative, Andrei Popa, mentioned that this campaign aims to draw the attention of society in general and to young people in particular on the fact that piracy is a "theft" of intellectual property, an offence sanctioned by national and international law.
"Secondly, we want to draw attention to the risks posed by pirated software users. All ways of piracy and user risks when illegally using digital content will be featured on the campaign website www.pirateriaonline.md and on social networks. The experts and field specialists will present the risks and alternatives to online piracy in video and clear language format," said AGEPI official. He also said that recently, the creators of music, movies, and software no longer gain from their work because they are stolen and not motivated to do so.
At his turn, EU Project leader, Intellectual Property Rights Support, Maximilian Foedinger, said: "We are here to help implement intellectual property rights in Moldova. The intellectual property must be protected like any other type of property. Our goal is to draw attention to risks and show alternatives to legally download digital content."
The technical assistance project: Intellectual Property Rights Support is funded by EU and is to be completed in November 2018.
