Moldovan speaker meets U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European, Eurasian Affairs

Chisinau, 19 September /MOLDPRES/- U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell welcomed Moldova's financial and banking results, and encouraged continued efforts to combat corruption at a meeting with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
"Fight against corruption and we are committed to doing more for Moldova," Wess Mitchell said.
"The strong U.S. commitment to our country will provide tangible results in key areas of bilateral cooperation," Candu said.
Candu praised U.S. support and reiterated the strong commitment of the authorities to strengthen institutional capacities.
The sides discussed the domestic situation in the country, regional situation and security challenges, as well as the solutions promoted by the Moldovan authorities. Also, they approached developments in trilateral cooperation on parliamentary branch, Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine, including the goal to create strategic analysis centre.
The officials highlighted the importance of the 2019 parliamentary elections in line with international democratic standards and principles in the electoral field.
Candu is on a visit to the United States as deputy head of the Democratic Party of Moldova. Expenses of this trip are not covered by public funds.
