Project on creation of green areas, energy efficiency launched in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 20 September /MOLDPRES/ - A project titled, Strategic Planning – Chisinau – Green City, was launched in Chisinau today. The project is part of the Green Cities programmes, backed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Representatives of local public administration, as well as of EBRD attended the meeting on the project’s launch.
The project presents the carrying out of a working plan on actions of creating green areas in the city and fulfilling measures the goal of which is energy efficiency.
„Chisinau is a dynamic and friendly city; therefore, we are happy to back the local authorities in carrying out this project. The initiative is aimed at developing the city with the help of the grant provided by the government of Austria. Thus, we are set to implement an action plan to identify major priorities in the sector. I am proud of this initiative, which is meant for the residents of the city. At the same time, EBRD will promote the private sector’s involvement in the elaboration of energy efficiency projects, in order to improve the situation in the field. The new action plan will identify needed solutions and will we support the projects which will be subsequently implemented successfully,” EBRD Moldova Director Angela Sax said.
For his part, the Chisinau deputy mayor, Nistor Grozavu, said that, within this programme, major challenges in the capital would be established and an action plan would be subsequently worked out to improve the situation. “In the capital, there are more problems concerning the transport, industry and management of waste. At the same time, one of the principal priorities is the creation of green areas and energy efficiency,” Grozavu added.
In 2016, EBRD provided the Chisinau city hall with a loan worth ten million euros to improve the energy efficiency in public buildings, such as schools, kindergartens and hospitals. The project regarded 100 public buildings and the investments made are meant to save 50 per cent of the energy consumed in these buildings.
