European Heritage Days to take place in Moldova

Chisinau, 20 September /MOLDPRES/ - More cultural actions will be organized within the European Heritage Days (EHD), due to be held all over Moldova on 24-28 September.
The EHD agenda comprises a string of activities, such as: exhibitions of photos and documents, conferences, roundtables, watching movies, activities for children and adults, workshops of craftsmanship and cooking traditional dishes, guided excursions to heritage monuments of national or local importance: parks, grottos, museums, memorial houses, churches, nature reserves, libraries, etc.
At a news conference today, Education, Culture and Research Minister Monica Babuc reiterated the importance of protecting and promoting the national cultural heritage, which is a component part of the European one. “I am happy that, year after year, the European Heritage Days are marked by more and more cultural activities, which attract a more and more numerous public both in Chisinau and other settlements. This is proof of the fact that this nation knows his past and wants a European future. Therefore, I invite you to celebrate our cultural treasure together,” the official stressed.
The 2018 issue, titled Our Heritage: Where Past Meets the Future, urges the wide public to take knowledge of its common European history and presents the cultural heritage as the genesis of traditional values and which provides connection between the past and future.
According to Minister Monica Babuc, the events due to be held to this end turn to good account historical monuments, archeological sites, arts collections, traditional craftsmanship, etc. They give visitors possibility to know the common cultural heritage and actively get involved in its safeguarding.
The actions within EHD will take place in more than 64 settlements from 18 districts and will be organized by the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, through subordinated institutions, as well as with the contribution of museums, district councils, community centres, culture departments/sections, etc. For comparison, in 2017, similar events took place in 43 settlements from 16 districts.
EHD represents an initiative by the Council of Europe, carried out in France for the first time ever in 1985. Thus, the European heritage Days are marked in those 50 countries signatory to the European Cultural Convention (1954). More than 70,000 events with the participation of 20 million visitors are yearly organized, to contribute to raising the awareness of the public opinion as to the pan-European heritage and to encourage the residents to actively get involved in the protection and consolidation of the cultural heritage for the present and future generations.
