Chisinau, 20 September /MOLDPRES/ – A scientific conference: The old Romanian book – a monument of culture and spirituality, occasioned by 330 years since the Bible was printed in Romanian, took place today at the National Library of Moldova (BNM). The event was organised by the host institution in partnership with the Institute of History (II).

In his speech, academician Andrei Esanu, moderator of event, mentioned, among other things, that besides the fact that the Bible is a basic book of Christians, it is a monument of culture and unification of the Romanian language. According to the scholar, this monument of Romanian culture emerged due to efforts of several generations of the three Romanian states: Moldova, Transylvania and Wallachia.

At his turn, director of History Institute, Gheorghe Cojocaru, said that the Bible is that monument of history which has boosted the development of our Romanian language and our national identity. In this context, professor Gheorghe Postica emphasised that the Bible is the most important monument of written culture, where we find answers to all the questions.

In his greeting message, the director of the National Library, Elena Pintilei, reminded that the first full edition of the Sacred Scripture, which is a reference point for its sacred text until today, appeared during the time of Serban Cantacuzino and Constantin Brâncoveanu, both lovers of faith, culture and book.

During the event, historians Valentina Esanu, Ion Chirtoaga, Igor Cereteu, doctor habilitat in philology Irina Condrea, doctor in theology, priest Octavian Mosin and others made the presentations.
