IMF team of experts rounds up visit to Moldova

Chisinau, 20 September /MOLDPRES/ – Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, has met today with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) team of experts led by Ruben Atoyan, which concluded his visit to Moldova, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The PM thanked the experts for constructive discussions and objective attitude, reiterating the importance of IMF Agreement for Moldova. "I want to assure you that we are an ambitious and determined team but at the same time – rational and we will make every effort so that we can find solutions to achieve our commitments", said Pavel Filip.

Following the assessment of the macroeconomic situation in Moldova, financial – banking sector and budget – fiscal policies, the experts came up with a series of recommendations. In upcoming period, the authorities will focus their efforts on strengthening banking policies, ensuring economic growth and increasing budget revenues, and adopting the Law on the National financial stability commission. Also, during the meeting, the parties exchanged views upon budget execution for 2018, budget plans for 2019, and the package of laws addressing capital amnesty, tax reform and business support.

In this context, Ruben Atoyan appreciated the high level of cooperation with the Chisinau authorities, expressing the belief that all the common objectives would be achieved: "We want to be your partners in order to further implement the reforms which you initiated".

The IMF experts stayed in Moldova on 13 – 20 September 2018, so as to assess fiscal, monetary and budgetary policies. The IMF team will return to Moldova with an evaluation mission in the first half of 2019.
