City hall of Romanian settlement to financially back reconstruction of Dniester river wall nearby north Moldova fortress

Chisinau, 21 September /MOLDPRES/ - The city hall of Buzau, Romania, has earmarked 100,000 euros for the reconstruction of the Dniester river wall and revive the landscape of the Soroca Fortress. The project is carried out by the Soroca city hall, in partnership with the Buzau authorities.  

The works for rebuilding the Dniester wall are estimated at about 138,500 euros. Most financial resources are provided by the Buzau local council and a quarter of the sum is allocated by the Soroca municipal council.  

The support of the colleagues from Romania fits in an agreement on twinning, signed between the mayors of Buzau and Soroca in December 2017. The document sees cooperation in the social, economic sectors, exchange of experience between employees of the two administrations, mutual visits by pupils and teachers, as well as joint organization of more meetings and festivities.  

According to sources form the Soroca city hall, workers cleaned the plaster from the protection wall, bushes were cut and chairs and street lamps are to be set in their places. Decorative trees will be planted between them. The project provides for the improvement of conditions for recreation, leisure and environmental protection.   

The Soroca Fortress is a Moldovan fortress from the 16th century, built in wood by Ruler Stefan cel Mare in front of the ford across the Dniester river and reconstructed in stone by Ruler Petru Rares in the middle of the 16th century. The fortress is emblematic for Moldova and represents a foundation stone for reviving the tourism in the region.
