Democratic Party of Moldova submits notification to top court on appointment of new ministers

Chisinau, 21 September /MOLDPRES/ - Two MPs of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM) today submitted a notification to the Constitutional Court (CC), thereby asking for ascertaining circumstances justifying the setting of the duties of ad interim of the office of Moldova’s president, after head of state Igor Dodon had repeatedly refused to sign the decrees on the appointment of the new ministers.

The notification was filed by lawmaker Sergiu Sarbu and Eugen Nichiforciuc.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, Sergiu Sarbu said that the request would be considered urgently. “The government needs ministers and we cannot allow an institutional blockage. The notification submitted today is to be examined in early next week. If the Court finds out the circumstances for setting the duties of ad interim, then the new cabinet members are to be appointed to office under a degree by the parliament speaker or prime minister,” Sarbu noted.

The notification submitted reads that “an institutional conflict would appear through the repeated refusal by the head of state to sign the decree on the appointment of the new ministers to office.”

In the beginning of this week, PDM said that two ministers of the current cabinet, the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister and Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister, would be changed.

PDM leader Vlad Plahotniuc said that the formation he leads had put up Nicolae Ciubuc and Silvia Radu for the two positions. Thus, Silvia Radu is to take over the management of the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry and Nicolae Ciubuc – the one of the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry.
