More supply stations for electric vehicles to be set in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 21 September /MOLDPRES/ - More supply will be set stations for electric vehicles in the Moldovan capital. The initiative will be carried out in 2018-2019, within a project, Moldova Sustainable Green Cities, financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova.
According to the Chisinau city hall, the initiative includes also the setting of solar-powered palms for generating electric energy from renewable resources, stations for collecting plastic bottles and creation of an online platform of civic participation of Chisinau residents.
The activities will be carried out in partnership with the innovation laboratories of UNDP Moldova, development partners, entrepreneurs and national/local authorities. “I welcome the launch of this project, which is meant to meet the challenges related to urbanization. This is a project for the city’s citizens. These initiatives will be conceived and developed along with the people who live in Chisinau, in partnership with the private sector and the civil society,” the Chisinau acting mayor, Ruslan Codreanu, said.
„Green City Lab, which is to be created within this project, will offer opportunities of testing the concept, on the basis of which cities represent of urban transformation, where local authorities have the role of engineers of change and provide cooperation with the private sector and citizens, in order to test and experiment new solutions as response to the present challenges,” UNDP Moldova Deputy Resident Representative Stefan Liller said.
The project encourages innovative pilot initiatives, which will reduce the greenhouse gas emissions through measures of efficient waste management, energy efficiency in residential buildings, use of renewable energy and intelligent urban planning. At the same time, the Chisinau municipality will be assisted in the process of planning of urban mobility, involving residents and private sector in comprehensive consultations and topic-related discussions.
The project, Moldova Sustainable Green Cities, has an overall budget of 2.72 million dollars, of which 2.64 million dollars provided by GEF and 80,000 dollars – by UNDP Moldova.
