Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/- The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) should remain one of the main pillars of peace and security in Europe, Moldovan authorities expressed their willingness to further cooperate to enhance the capacities of OSCE early warning, crisis mediation and existing conflicts and new threats and challenges to the security of member states of the organization. Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi made the statement at a meeting with OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger in New York, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.

Ulianovschi highlighted the OSCE role in relations with Moldova and marked its quality of mediator and key partner in solving the Transnistrian conflict and in providing the necessary assistance and expertise to the Moldovan authorities on issues related to human rights, the rule of law and civil society.

Ulianovschi and Greminger reviewed the developments in the Transnistrian settlement process, finding that there is enough political potential and will to continue the positive dynamics. They underlined the importance of implementing the agreements reached with attention to the priority issues on the agenda of negotiations.

In this context, the Moldovan official appreciated the contribution made by Ambassador Michael Scanlan in the Transnistrian settlement and reunification process, expressing his conviction that his successor, Claus Neukirch, will be equally committed and will draw honorable perspective for the country's reunification goal.

For his part, Greminger appreciated the latest developments in promoting confidence-building measures, namely launching the procedure for issuing license plates with neutral numbers, which is undoubtedly an achievement of the current government.

The sides exchanged views on the prospect of achieving the goal of withdrawing foreign troops from the territory of Moldova, supported by the UN resolution of 22 June 2018, which establishes at the highest level the desire of the Moldovan authorities for peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
