Cooperation with Japan as one of most important dimensions of GUAM + activities – Moldovan diplomat says

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/- Cooperation with Japan is one of the most important dimensions of GUAM + activities, the member states of the Organization appreciated the contribution of the Tokyo authorities to the implementation of projects in the energy security, water and waste management, tourism and other sectors in the GUAM region. Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi made the statement at the GUAM + Japan ministerial meeting held in New York on the sidelines of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.

Ulianovschi said that the member states of the organization are interested in deepening the GUAM-Japan partnership to further identify and explore other common areas of cooperation. "Moldova has a special interest in the projects in the innovative information and technologies and proposes the creation of a program dedicated to cooperation for the coming year. I believe this is a common need for all GUAM member states," he said.

The Moldovan official also said that Moldova, holding the presidency of the Organization, welcomes Japan's intention to continue cooperation with GUAM member states this year, both at political, economic and sectoral levels. "We believe that the new thematic workshop proposed by Japan on investment promotion will strengthen the capabilities of GUAM member states to take advantage of new economic opportunities in the country and abroad," he said.

The participants exchanged views on the current stage of cooperation with Japan, including the prospects for developing and deepening cooperation in tourism, information technology and investment. They welcomed the Japanese side's intention to hold a seminar for GUAM member states in investment promotion. The Japanese side underlined the importance of respect for democratic values and human rights by GUAM member states as a fundamental principle that ensures the prosperity and welfare of nations.

The sides exchanged views on issues related to the situation in East Asia and Europe and the reform of the UN Security Council.
