Seven movies to be screened on Romanian Film Days 2018

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/ - Seven movies, made by directors Radu Jude, Corneliu Porumboiu, Constantin Popescu, Florin Serban, Daniel Sandu, Ana Lungu and Hadrian Marcu, and selected at international festivals, will be presented at the fourth issue of the Romanian Film Days (ZFR), due in Chisinau on 11-14 October.
The event will take place at the Chisinau-based Odeon movie theatre and the entrance to the films will be free. According to the organizers, the festival continues the tradition to bring the most appreciated movies of Romania’s cinematography to film-lovers from Chisinau.
This year issue will be opened by a debut film of director Daniel Sandu “Un pas în urma serafimilor” (One Step behind Seraphs) (2017), which will be presented at the screening for a discussion with the audience. This full-length film was in competition at the Sofia Festival and in 2018 won eight trophies at the Gopo Prizes, including for the best film and the best direction.
Also, the audience of Moldova will be able to watch the newest movie by director Radu Jude, „Îmi este indiferent dacă în istorie vom intra ca barbari” (I Do Not Care Whether We Become History as Barbarians) (2018). The film this year won the Crystal Globe of the Karlovy Vary Festival and it has been recently chosen as proposal of Romania for nomination as foreign film at the Oscar Awards.
The selection includes also the movie Pororoca (2017), the third full-length film by Constantin Popescu, which last year was competing at the San Sebastian Festival, where actor Bogdan Dumitrache won the prize for playing role in the movie. At the same time, a new film will be screened, not yet launched in Romania, by director Florin Serban. The movie is titled „Dragoste 1. Câine” (Love 1. Dog) (2018), and has come directly from the competition of the Sarajevo Festival. An actor from Moldova, Valeriu Andriuta, is playing the leading part and will be present in Chisinau for a discussion with the audience at the closing gala.
A new film directed by Ana Lungu, „Un prinț și jumătate” (One Prince and a Half) (2018), which has been recently screened at movie theatres from Romania, is coming from the Sarajevo Festival as well. The second debut of the 2018 selection is „Un om la locul lui” (A Man at His Place) (2017) by Hadrian Marcu. The movie was selected at the section New Directors at the San Sebastian Festival and the Namur Festival and it will be the film’s third screening in the world in Chisinau, before the premiere in Bucharest.
The programme also comprises a documentary titled „Fotbal infinit” (Infinite Football) (2018) – the newest movie by Corneliu Porumboiu. The film’s premiere took place at the Berlin Festival, at the Forum section, in early 2018.
The Romanian Film Days are organized by the Association of Independent Cinema Men from Moldova and the ROVA FILM Production House from Romania. The event is financially backed by the Romanian National Film Centre, Mihai Eminescu Romanian Cultural Institute in Chisinau, Cinema Men Union of Romania, Moldova’s Education, Culture and Research Ministry and National Cinematography Centre.
