Chisinau hosts meeting of honorary consuls of Moldova

Chisinau, 5 October /MOLDPRES/ - The work of the honorary consuls in the previous years, plans for future, as well as prospects for development of new partnerships are discussed at a meeting of honorary consuls, held in Chisinau after a six-year break, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.   

While speaking to those 43 honorary consuls from 30 countries attending the meeting, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi said that, through this event, MAEIE started a new tradition to organize such meetings annually. And this given that this category of persons have a huge potential, which is currently not turned to good account, of promoting Moldova, native products and services on various markets, of attracting new investments into the national economy. “We rely on the ability of honorary consuls to promote abroad the image and business opportunities of Moldova, as well as on the spread of the message on Moldova’s openness and willingness to have a dialogue with investors and visitors of our country,” Minister Ulianovschi said.      

The Moldovan diplomacy head referred to the importance of strengthening the activities carried out by the honorary consuls in the long run and of joining efforts with Moldova’s diplomatic missions where they are present and attaching a more active role where the country does not have embassy or consulate. Tudor Ulianovschi also informed those present about the Moldovan cabinet’s decision to open new diplomatic missions in India, Argentina and Ghana, in order to have a diplomatic representation on all continents.    

At the meeting, representatives of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry, Investments Agency, Association of Business People from Moldova unveiled reports on opportunities and investment facilities provided by Moldova to foreign investors, reforms and measures meant to facilitate the work of economic agents, etc.   

At the event, the most active honorary consuls were awarded appreciation diplomas for achievements in the promotion of Moldova in their states.  

The honorary consuls will visit the Balti-based Free Economic Zone, where they will closer take knowledge of the investments opportunities in Moldova.

Moldova presently has 60 honorary consuls in more than 30 states.
