Chisinau, 06 October /MOLDPRES/ – The Moldovan wine is celebrated in the centre of Chisinau today, where it has started the National Wine Day (ZNV) at its 17th issue. The folk music and dances, traditional dishes and quality wine have created a special atmosphere at the biggest feast dedicated to wine traditions and culture of Moldova.

The residents and guests of Chisinau have had a real show, the main attraction being the wines exhibited by over 60 producers from four regions of Protected Geographical Indication (IGP).

It was also arranged a peasant courtyard with barrels, press, grapes and baskets at the event. The ones who chose to come to the centre of Chisinau can participate in a wine school, admire the works of several folk craftsmen and taste traditional dishes alongside a glass of Vin din sufletul Moldovei (Wine from soul of Moldova), which is also the celebration name of 2018. There has been no lack of good music on the stage in the centre of Chisinau, gathering more local artists and folk ensembles from all over Moldova at event.

Present at inauguration, Prime Minister Pavel Filip has said that the wines of Moldova are produced with much work and love and became a visiting card of Moldova. "We are a country with welcoming and open people, people who gloriously eulogise any guest who crosses their threshold from that little they have. The Moldovan wines, like our people, have gone through tortures, through complicated periods, by embargo imposed by Russia, after which they have taken the path to EU. Similar with our people: we have gone through many difficulties, but we are determined on our way to great European family," said Filip.

Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, Nicolae Ciubuc, said that the mission of the celebration is to promote the wines and image of Moldova as a wine country. According to minister, despite difficulties in identifying sales markets, the wine sector continues to grow in small, but secure steps.

The director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, Gheorghe Arpentin, said that for the first time this year, the celebration is also marked in Bucharest.

The ZNV gathered 47 native producers and attracted many foreign tourists in 2017.

On 01 August 2017 – 31 July 2018, the total volume of exports of Moldovan wines reached $14.39 million, which is an increase of 03 per cent over the same period in 2017. The wine growers will harvest more grapes than in 2017, with the estimated total grape production of 660 thousand tons in 2018.
