Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine start thinking strategically, act as region

Chisinau, 06 October /MOLDPRES/ – Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine are starting to think strategically and act as a region. The statement was made at the first meeting of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Moldova, Ukraine, and Georgia, which is held in Tbilisi today, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The head of the Commission of national security, defence and public order, Eugen Carpov, spoke about security in the area and risks posed by unauthorised presence of Russian troops and munitions, energy security and importance of EU support.
MP Mihaela Spatari mentioned that propaganda attacks the fundamental democratic values, and Moldova does not have a well – secure info space at present. Also, she noted that Parliament has adopted anti-propaganda measures in national legislation that come to restrict external propaganda. "We need to work together on a trilateral joint platform where we can exchange info in due time and identify measures to counteract misinfo," said Mihaela Spatari.
At the first meeting of the parliamentary assembly MD – GE – UA, the MPs discussed regional security, Russian influence and consequences of military aggression, developing and implementing a common security policy. Also, it has been widely addressed the issue of misinfo and propaganda, recognised as one of the greatest challenges in the area. The SPs recognised the need to coordinate action and cooperation to identify and promote common solutions that effectively counter the info challenges faced by Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine.
The Delegation of Moldova to the Interparliamentary Assembly Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine is headed by SP Andrian Candu. The delegation includes the head of the Commission of foreign policy and European integration, Violeta Ivanov, head of the Commission of national security, defence and public order, Eugen Carpov, Mihaela Spatari, and Grigore Cobzac. The delegation of Parliament of Moldova visits Georgia on 05 – 07 October.
The initiative to set up the Interparliamentary Assembly Moldova, Georgia, and Ukraine was launched at the first high-level interparliamentary conference held in Chisinau in March, when the three heads of the legislature committed themselves to uniting their efforts to promote some common defence and security policies.
