Moldovan diplomacy head signs linguistic pact between Moldova, International Organization of La Francophonie

Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/ - The linguistic pact between Moldova and the International Organization of La Francophonie (IOF) was signed between Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi and IOF Secretary General Michaëlle Jean in Yerevan today. The event was organized on the sidelines of the International Summit of la Francophonie, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.
After the signing of the document, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi said that the linguistic diversity was a value in Moldova. He noted that the promotion of policies concerning the plurilingualism contributes to a quality education and represented a considerable trump for professional integration, access to exchange of competences with actors from Francophone communication through implementation of cooperation projects in priority sectors for Moldova’s modernization.
IOF Secretary General Michaëlle Jean highly appreciated Moldova’s involvement in the promotion of Francophone values. She welcomed the signing of the Pact as a unique opportunity to boost the dialogue with the actors of the Francophonie and to thus strengthen Moldova’s position on the international stage.
The linguistic pact provides for the Moldova-Francophonie cooperation within projects focused on consolidating the teaching and learning of the French language in the primary, secondary and university education, through an approach regarding the professional orientation, as well as cultural cooperation by the promotion of cultural industries in Moldova in the area of Francophonie, spreading French literary works and cinematography in Moldova, appearance of the Francophone mass media in the Moldovan media space.
The document has also the goal to promote the French language on the international stage by strengthening the French language competences of civil servants and diplomats of Moldova. The visibility of the Francophonie will also be consolidated through implementing projects on the development of tourism policies, meant to attract visitors from French-speaking countries to Moldova.
To fulfill the stimulation of the linguistic pact, the Moldovan authorities are to work out an action plan, which will transpose in concrete projects the objectives of the document, which are to be implemented in the initial phase during four years, with the involvement of national and international actors.
