Moldova benefits from 1.9-million-euros-worth financing on behalf of EU, Council of Europe within Partnership for Good Governance

Chisinau, 9 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova has benefited from projects worth 1.9 million euros within the Partnership for Good Governance, financed by the European Union and Council of Europe and implemented on the period 2015-2018. The information was presented in Chisinau today.
The money was used for carrying out four projects nationally. Besides, Moldova has been involved in another 14 initiatives implemented in Eastern Partnership countries. The projects were focused on combating and preventing the discrimination, strengthening the judicial system, observance of human rights in the process of implementing the digital agenda and consolidating the cooperation in the electoral field.
The head of the Projects Section at the EU Delegation to Moldova Marco Gemmer said that “the functional judicial system and equal access to justice for citizens represent a pre-condition for Moldova to continue to grow.” According to the European official, the projects due to be launched in the next years will focus more on civil actors, on local action groups and the civil society.
The head of the Council of Europe’s Office of the Directorate General of Programmes, Pilar Morales, enumerated some results achieved following projects’ implementation. “The Gender Equality Council has a new communication strategy and an improved Code of Ethics. About 120 judges, prosecutors and other officials have improved their knowledge as regards the non-discrimination standards. Representatives of Lawyers’ Association of Moldova benefited from trainings in the human rights sector and we have published two text-books on standards in elections,” the official noted.
The national coordinator of the Partnership for Good Governance, Petru Alexei, said that the projects initiated were aimed at backing the reforms nationally and at adjusting the legislation and practices of the Eastern Partnership states to the European standards.
The Partnership for Good Governance will continue with the second stage, due to be launched in January 2019 and which will last two years. This phase will be focused on projects concerning the judicial reform and combating the money laundering.
