Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ - Ambrosia will be destroyed all over Moldova. This measure is included in the Regulation on combating and preventing the spread of ambrosia, due to be published in Moldova’s Official Journal (Monitorul Official) on 12 October.

The document sees introduction of ambrosia in the list of banned plants. Thus, till 30 May each year, the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, National Food Safety Agency and National Agency for Public Health will identify the lands infected with ambrosia and will monitor their cleaning.

At the same time, on the period between the plants’ springing and the end of the vegetation period, decision-makers in charge of managing lands will be obliged to destroy this weed by mowing, uprooting or treatment with phyto-sanitary products. If the provisions are not observed, the people in charge of this will be sanctioned with a fine up to 1,500 lei, and if the concerned persons could not identified, the obligation to maintain the land will belong to local public authorities.

Also, the regulation sees informing citizens about the negative effects triggered by ambrosia, through the webpage of the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry, as well as by organizing information campaigns.

An action plan on the combating and preventing the spread of ambrosia for 2019-2014 will be also published in the 12 October issue of the Official Journal.

Ambrosia is a plant which grows on the edge of road, uncultivated lands, in gardens, in crops of cereals and sunflower. The pollen of this plant spread by wind triggers pollinosis and asthma and is one of the factors aggravating the bronchial asthma in the end of summer and beginning of autumn. The presence of this weed causes significant losses of harvest in agricultural crops.
