Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ – An exhibition entitled: Patrimoniul cultural european (The European cultural heritage) was inaugurated at the National Library of Moldova (BNM) today.

The event took place in a series of actions under generic: Patrimoniul cultural: acolo unde trecutul intalneste viitorul (The cultural heritage: where the past meets the future), organised on this day by the institution in the context of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 and the European Heritage Days.

Interviewed by agency, the head of the institution, Elena Pintilei, has mentioned that the exhibition includes over 300 books and documents from the patrimony of the BNM's collections.

"For the first time, an unusual collection of Harti europene medievale: secolele XVI – XVIII (The medieval European maps: 16th – 18th centuries) is proposed to public. The latter represent the national patrimony of Moldova throughout their historical, symbolic, scientific and artistic value. A special place in the exhibited materials has its literary and plastic art, as well as the audiovisual exhibits that come to complete this rich exhibition," mentioned Elen Pintilei.

Attending the event, Professor Gheorghe Postica pointed out that cultural heritage is what we have preserved from our parents, grandparents and great grandparents. "For us this legacy is expensive. Moldova has ratified all UNESCO conventions on cultural heritage. Also, in recent years we have succeeded in adopting several laws on the protection of immaterial, mobile and historical cultural heritage. At the present stage, we are working on the elaboration of the Law on the protection of historical and architectural monuments, which do not have a protected system of protection. We also have a EU funded project to support cultural heritage. At present, the Italian specialists help us to correct the directions and policies in the field of cultural heritage protection," specified Gheorghe Postica.

The exhibition is open until 18 October.
