Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ - The dean of the Moldovan State University’s (USM) Law Faculty has been put under arrest for 30 days. Magistrates of the Chisinau Court took a decision to this effect today.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the head of the information and media communication service at the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, Anastasia Mihalceanu, has said that the judges fully admitted the prosecutors’ request on placing under arrest for a 30-day period.
„During the arrest, the suspect will be in the isolation ward of the National Anticorruption Centre. At the same time, the magistrates are to give their opinion on the arrest of the other person prosecuted in the same file,” Mihalceanu noted.
The dean of USM’s Law Faculty and a lawyer were detained two days ago, being suspect of passive and active corruption. The detentions took place following the carrying out of more searches in the dean’s office, as well as at the office and home of the lawyer.
According to prosecutors, one PhD in law and head of PhD supervisor, who is also lawyer and member of the commission for public defending of doctoral theses, set up at USM, would have given the dean of the Law Faculty financial means he does not deserve in last August. In the exchange for the money, the dean was to facilitate the defending of the theses by two doctoral candidates.
