Foreign minister meets Moldovan diaspora in Greece

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/- The defense and promotion of the rights and interests of Moldovan citizens abroad is one of the main priorities in the activity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and diplomatic missions abroad, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi said at a meeting yesterday with representatives of the Moldovan diaspora in Greece, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.
During the dialogue with the Moldovan diaspora, the Moldovan diplomat has reviewed the main actions taken by the government to reform and modernize the country and reconfirmed the fact that the support of Moldovan citizens inside and outside the country is one of the priority goals of the government's agenda and the ministry. The official tackled the investment perspectives of diaspora members in the national economy, as well as their dynamic involvement in cultural and social projects both in the country and in the states of residence.
Diaspora representatives reported on their activities in Greece, mainly describing the actions they are taking to promote the cultural specifics, national traditions and customs in Greece, including those organized jointly with the Embassy in Athens.
The talks focused on exchange of views on the political and socio-economic developments in the country, especially in the context of the parliamentary elections in February 2019, country development programs, business opportunities and state support, creating new jobs, etc. Representatives of the diaspora also pointed out some problems they are facing, asking the Moldovan authorities to find solutions to study Romanian language in the schools where many children of their nationals are enrolled, elaborating a more efficient and operative information mechanism on the projects proposed by the authorities for the business environment and diaspora, identifying direct contacts between state institutions with diaspora and necessary support in organizing and promoting events on national culture, traditions and customs etc.
In this context, Ulianovschi appreciated the work of Moldovan diaspora in Greece on culture, an important aspect for promoting a good image of the country. He noted that all proposals submitted by the diaspora representatives will be considered and identified solutions to address them.
At the same time, Ulianovschi encouraged maintaining an open and active dialogue with the Embassy and the Ministry to identify the best ways of promoting and defending the interests and rights of every citizen of Moldova, regardless of where he or she is.
