Juvenile prisons to be reorganized

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/- Juvenile prisons will be called detention centers for minors and young people. The parliament approved today a draft amendment of the legislation in first reading.

Under the draft, prisons will be renamed after the reorganization of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions in the National Administration of Penitentiaries has been completed. However, the phrase "penitentiary system workers" in the legislation will be replaced by "civil servants with special status in the penitentiary administration system".

Also, the new draft comes up with a number of notions meant to optimize the career development process of officials in the penitentiary administration system and create motivational opportunities for recruiting and retaining skilled and competent staff. The position of "main specialist" in the penitentiary administration system will be strengthened, the level of remuneration of the respective function will be uniformized in all authorities and the position of "senior specialist" will be set to ensure that the career development mechanism should be efficient and diversified.

Moreover, the names of special grades of civil servants in the penitentiary administration system will be changed.
